Life of Grandma from Riley's Point of View

October 13th was a very cool day for our family. My mom (Riley's Grandma) was honoured for her lifetime dedication of volunteering in Mission. It was a wonderful experience to be there to see how appreciated and respected my mother is by such a diverse group of people in our community. I've always known my mom is special but it was so amazing to know that others think so too.

It was also very interesting to see Riley's reaction to the event. The first one was priceless ... driving into the parking lot of the church hall and looking over at a sea of white hair entering the doorway, he commented ... "I guess all the handicapped parking spots are already full"! Oh Riley....

The best part of the day was when my mom got up to speak. The entire place grew quiet and she did such a lovely job of her presentation, typical mom trying to deflect the attention to others who were also deserving and appreciated. Riley got to see his grandma not like he usually does, in the kitchen making him a snack or cheering him on as he drives the lawn mower or car, but he saw her as an icon of her community, strong, gracious, confident and much loved by so many, not just us. It was a very cool day.
